... (apparently the message I originally wrote, some how wasn't posted but the subject was)
Anyways, I want to buy one of these "VoiceMax" compressor/limiter/noise gate boards for my radio. www.telstar-electronics.com/voicemax.htm I am trying to figure out what I would need to do to my cobra 148 to bypass modulation limiting features so that I could use the limiter of the "voicmax" circuit. I believe there is a certain wire to cut or something like that. The modification list says "Cut R131", is this the same for all versions of the radio? I have one of the new makes only a couple years old bought from copperelectronics.com. I know there are variations on the different years of production for this radio and I don't want to cut the wrong part on my radio.
-Thanks

The chassis model numbers for the standard Cobra 148 GTL's are MB8719 and MB8734.
If you have a new make 148GTL made in China it should have the rci8719.
I think the soundtrackers use the mmb8734, not sure.
I'm pretty sure all the 8719's mod the same and have the same parts layout. Depending on the year the 148 GTL was made there is more or less parts of better or worse quality. So a pre 1994 148GTL could have more stuff in it where the new ones might not.
I would say your good to go. Just as long as you follow the instructions perfectly.
Let us know how it turns out cause I'm curious about this upgrade.
KEEP IT REAL!
