I just got my new Texas Ranger 966 AM/SSb radio. I would like to know what to do so the swing remains the same even if I want to turn the key down to 1/2 a watt. I want to do a variable key also. I am good at soldering and can do a clean job. Anyone have some info on this mod for this particular radio.
BTW this radio has a superb receiver in it!!!

I got this off the internet. I have tried it and it works very well. Same peak no matter what the d/k is...

-Lift end of R266 that connects to D103 and C233. Solder the banded end in the empty hole where resistor was lifted and solder the other end of diode to lifted end of resistor.

I appreciate the good info Perrym1962, I did the mod this morning and it improved the swing at low DK levels substantially!
If I can find a way to volt the final then I'll really be in business AM wise. I guess I'll drill a hole in the bottom cover and install a variable key now.
They sure do use tiny resistors in these things!
Again...Thanks!
