I'm thinking about getting a Magnum 257 for my plow truck seeing I spend most the time on SSB. I had a 2510 but some one wanted it more than I did. If I pay for them to (expand, align & tune). I assume it will come all set to cover the 11 & 10 meter bands with a some button pushing. Witch will somewhat mach my base capabilities. Or have they made the magnum 257 in a way that we cant channel them now ? Thanks to however gives me A answer!! |

bang for the buck....the magnum 257 is HARD to beat. for a mobile....never again. at least in this suburban, well electrified locale. when in my house, it was a real good performer. in my truck, parked at a deserted beach location, fantastic. on the road, especially one with ANY overhead wires, well lit store fronts, etc....forget about it! the noise is unbearable! it takes a signal minimally at S-9 to get over the noise. the noise blanker is USELESS. ask for the mod to be 'condition 2'. that gives you control with a 2 button-push process. you'll have full functions of repeater, etc as a 10m only radio every time you turn it on. by pushing the 'FUNC' control & holding 'CALL' for a couple seconds, the radio will switch to 'all channel, export mode' where you'll have all the channels available in bands of 40 channels like any other export radio. |

Well, when I got my 2510 every one told me that it would pic up all kinds of noise from electrified things it was not that bad. My 1990 gm was the worst my new 05 ford was good to that radios as it was not noise. I will take your advise & think about that point. NOISE RADIO |
