After quite some time out of cb's - I got my stuff hooked up again and discovered my mobile amp is dead. (home made, tempremental, out of production transistors; so I'm not fixing it) I've done a LOT of reading... and it seems the amps are fairly close together in performance and price (except the 503 which is cheaper) I run a bone stock CB... out of those amps, which would be a better one for am and ssb? I'm leaning towards the palomar or kl503 The KL500 an ML450 seem nearly identical; except that the ML450 has a fan. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

It (literally) came dwn to a coin toss between the KL503 and ML450 -- kl503 won... A wee bit of buyers remorse; but if I don't like it; I can go back and re-evaluate the ML450 and KL500. I have a lot of 12 volt pc-cooling fans -- if it gets hot, I can bolt one onto the 503... Just not sure how the ssb will work on the KL's (amp will be tucked away, so I can't switch...) but according to the rmitaly; it will work fine... if it doesn't; I'll have a new-tested kl503 for sale & was only out 150... "way back when" palomar was a great amp; but it seems that it's gone down hill a bit, based on forums & reviews... MidnightSpecials seem to still be rated ok -- and the MF is class AB... Thanks for the input! |
