I have a Galaxy 400 that developed a loose SO-239 socket on the input side and I'm not able to solder due to being on oxygen and some nerve damage in my hands. So I asked a friend to re-solder the connections to the socket. Well some how he arched something out very close to the input socket and since that time my preamp has not worked other than attenuating the receive almost out and just as luck would have it the preamp pulled weak and distant stations in pretty good. Can anyone shed any light on what might have happened when he shorted the connection out?

I can see how stupid this question sounds but my hope is that with all of the hundreds of users that read these posts maybe someone else has pulled the same stunt.

As far as the rest of the Linear goes it seems to work perfect. It will peak out around 350 to 400 but I don't push it very hard and usually run it around 275 to 300 max and it seems to run pretty smooth and cool. Any suggestions would be most welcome one last note it has four 2290 transistors.
