I have an opportunity to have a 667V. Is it possible to run the 667V with the 2995DX? The 2995DX was copper tuned and purchased about 6 months ago. I have heard of the amp switch mod for the 2995DX. I have been looking for posts about this but was unable to find any. Thanks in advance for any info |

537 You can run the two together, just be careful not to overdrive the 667. It (667) has a driver unlike the 500. Make sure not to key more than 4w in and 12-16w pep or you could overdrive the 667 and possibly damage it. 73 Pressman

Thank you for the reply. Do you know how much swing this amp can handle for regular use ? I know it was not made to be used with my type of radio . I have a MFJ-868B meter. It will measure PEAK and Average. When I have it on AVERAGE and adjust the radio's audio down , I can dead key below 4 watts and swing under 20. Is this tolerable for this amp on a regular basis. Again, thank you. |

You are saying it swings 20 watts average or pep? Your amp won't live long being hit with 20 watts avg. The only way I would run a 2995 into a 667 is if I modified it to turn the internal amp off or I bypassed the driver in the 667. I wouldn't drive it any harder than it takes to get 100-125 watt carrier and 400-500 pep, you may have to back the mic gain down to limit the pep power. Things just sound so much better when you don't push them. If you google search "amp switch 2995dx" you will find some talk about this mod. One place has some pictures. If I were in your shoes I'd trade the 667 off for a 500 or better yet sell it and buy an 8 pill like a sweet sixteen or tnt 1500. |

Thank you, those numbers worked perfect. Now it;s time to build an 8 pill and see if i can drive it with the internal amp on. I don't think it's going to work, 2995dx sounds like when you try to dead key single digits and swing to 150 PEP. SORRY IT TOOK THIS LONG TO REPLY, EQUIPMENT IS EXPENSIVE AND TOOK TIME TO PURCHASE. |

The 2995dx will exceed the drive for that amp. What you need is a sweet 16 that will handle the 2995dx with no problem. Of course you will need at least 150 amp power supply to run the sweet 16 for your base. Copper sells the sweet 16. By the way the sweet 16 will take a 100 watt swing. I have mine set for a 2 watt dead key and let it swing to 100 watt for the drive from the radio. |
