I've recently obtained the TS 350HDV unit along with a Galaxy DX959 that I have a dk of about 3 watts and about 15pep. This is fed to a Wilson 5000 with a barefoot match of 1.2 to 1 on ch40 and even lower on the lower channels. I've never been a big fan of "magnetic" mount coil loaded antennas and this is why... I feed it the maul of the Texas star which winds up to about 45ish dk and cranks to about 175 under normal modulation but the SWR match goes up with it... I'm seeing a match of about 2.2 to 1 with the juice on... Anyone else seen this before? I'm almost certain it's an impedance mismatch between the finals and the Wilson because this setup screams beautiful on a 50 ohm DL... It could also be harmonics in the amp - I've noticed a couple of mica caps missing from the amp, perhaps part of the conversion but they really aren't needed as per the 2879 datasheets...

I'm thinking a 1/4 wave whip like I had back in the day is soon to b on a big brown truck ;)

Thoughts?...

After doing some research, I found that there was too much capacitance on the final transformer where the schematic calls for 1000pf and there was one 1000pf and a 290pf piggybacked to it. I removed the extra cap and the match bottomed out to a perfect 1.3 to 1 ... Just an FYI in case anyone else sees this. Probably a "scheme" to show fake power :/ Personally I prefer pure raw efficient power even if it is only a dk of 50 watts swinging to just under 200 - A perfect run for the 2879's...
