Hey guys.....got a 2950 here.....receives fine on FM, SSB, however there is very very little AM receive.....rf gain works fine on the working modes..a station usually giving me full meter comes in at maybe 3-4 "bars"...lower level stations arent heard at all. In trying to find the problem, I have replaced the HF amp(Q18 = 2sc1764 replaced with 2sc2999(nte107)).....also the front end protection diodes(replaced with 1N4148 500 ma) ...my question is two-fold...number 1....Could this be the AM detection diodes being faulty? And secondly, could the AM detectors be replaced with 1n6263's rated @15Ma? Any other thoughts on the possible problem? Email me @ shadow_walker301@yahoo.com please.....i dont get to check this forum much Thanks and 73'z from the Indiana cornfields, Shadowwalker

I had a 2950 and a 2980 that did the same thing. I found that the one of the copper coils in rear of radio had came loose from board. This was the old 2950 radio. Try that .It sounds like you have tried other stuff that I wouldnt have thought of. Hopefully that simple.
