you can make one with a spst switch and a 4.7kohm mini-pot from rshack. solder a wire from the junction of r238/vr13 to one lug of the switch. the other lug of the switch goes to the center leg of the 4.7k mini-pot. then one of the 2 remaining legs of the minpot goes to gnd. adjust high (vr13) where you want it, and low (4.7kminipot) where you want it. these will interact, and you will need to go back and forth until where you want it. you can also use a spdt switch with center off with -2- 4.7k pots for a 3 power switch. in this set up the wire from 238/vr13 goes to the center lug. then a wire from each of the 2 unused lugs will got to seperate 4.7k minipots. then the minipots will go to gnd. center is high, switched up is med, switched dn is low (of course you have to adjust the minpots for the levels you want). you can also use a 20 pot with the 4.7mini for a true adjustable carrier. |

Just remove the on board pot for AM Power. Go to Radio Shack and get a 10Kohm pot , Mount the pot on the rear of the radio and run 3 wires from the three holes on the board where you removed the on board pot to the new pot..It is a snap. 307 |

that will definitely work also 307. i listed the way above for the guys who want to be able to set their low and high carrier to predetermined min and max. like the radios that come from the factory with variable power. example, if they want a 1w carrier on low and 7w carrier on high (and possibly 3w carrier for med if using a spdt switch), they set that internally and use the outside switch to switch between the 2-3 presets. or, use the outside pot to "vary" between the 2 presets. with the external 10k you can't do that. it just variers from 0w to max carrier. but it is a whole lot easier to install. and that may be exactly what some are looking for (easy and simple). |

JUST RUN THE SAME THING FOR SSB THEN, HE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE AM POT, NOT THE SSB POT |

I understand that. What I want to know is do I have to have one for each mode? |

You DO NOT NEED an external pot for SSB , you use your microhone gain control for SSB power. Am power , if you want to have variable power , you need an external control. 307 |
