Im just starting to learn how to work on radios. Just wondering if there are any good mods that a beginer can handle?? I have a 148gtl that i bought from a friend that i think im going to start with. Im not sure if it works yet.. It lights up but i dont have a 5 pin mic for it. Does anyone have the mic diagram for it? Also it looks as though someone has been into it already but i have no idea what they have done. There are a couple of wires cut up front and a few jumpers on the some of the little square boxes on the circut board also there has been some wires spliced and the dimmer switch has been resoldered....Im not what anyone would call a technician but i have a great desire to learn how to work on radios. I have some knowledge of cb radios but as far as the circutry i dont know much. I can wire mics and stuff such as that but thats about as far as ive gone. Any info i can get will be very useful to me. Thank you BUCK |

Buck, Someone asked this very question a while back. Find books by Lou Franklin on CB radios. Study the ham test question pool questions. Read the threads in this forum. Ask lots of questions. Learn basic electronic theory and what different components do and why they do it. Here's the 148 GTL mic wiring to get you started... 1 = Audio 2 = Ground / Shield 3 = Receive 4 = N/C 5 = Transmit Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

could be someone has added upper and lower channels in it since the dimmer has things changed on it.when I mod the radio I will use the dimmer switch tone switch and cb pa switch since most people do not want to drill holes and add extra switches on them.may not be done this way but something to look at.Sonoma |
