I have a No Name 600 (Sure looks like a Palomar) I really like the performance of it but I can't seem to provide enough juice to it. Even in my car, 105 amp alternator, it still gets really warm. I have 6 gage wires, high capacity battery, and only driving it with 1 watt. It doesn't seem to matter to the box. It still keeps on cranking. I'm only worried about the heat.
Thanks for the feedback,
Nighthawk

This is the nature of the beast. These type of amps have been around since the late 80's with no change in design flaws. Improper balancing and inpedance matching within the amp cause excessive heat and relay lockup. Often operators have had to run 18' jumpers between radio and amp to keep it from "hanging up" on unkey.
Your setup sounds pretty good, 1w carrier is recommended and about 15-20w pep input. You may add ground from the amp case to your chassis, and a cooling fan.

I might add that it does not sound like you have to little of current supplied , it actually sounds 180 degrees around. You DO have the proper current supply and the transistors are saturated and causing "Normal" heat. The heat is normal in a typical 50 duty cycle. If you are long winded , use a blower mounted on it.

Nighthawk... what does your SWR look like? The higher the SWR, the quicker (and hotter) your amp will get.
