I just bought an Eagle Tomahawk. I believe it is the last revision of the radio before it was discontinued. This is the one where a 1N914 Diode has to be cut to expand it's frequency range.

What are all the mods available for this radio? Is it possible to tune in 1KHz instead of 10KHz at a time with the dial? No, not the 1KHz/10KHz/100Khz step feature on the front panel. Also, is there any info on how to make the clarifier 2-way (rit + xit)?

Seems to be a pretty neat cb, and if I had this back in '76 I would've ruled.

Look in previous posts regarding the Sidewinder, Commanche Warrior or Blackhawk, Titan II, etc. They are all similar. DO NOT adjust the internal voltage setting higher than 14.0v, otherwise simple carrier adjustment, setting ALC and AMC is all there is to it.

Thanks! Yeah I started researching the similar 'looking' radios for clues. Such as the Magnum 257 and the Deltaforce. Hard to get any hard facts without schematics. Great stuff, thanks for the lead. I'll check those other radios too. 73

Hi Tech671. It's a good Sunday, with your help, and all the research I've done about this radio, I've successfully unlocked the clarifier on my Tomahawk. I had to be carefull, as what I've found is that there were at least three versions of this radio under the Eagle brand. Mine is the third version. All three share the same main pcb, but differ in the control pcb - that's why there's different methods to get wider frequency coverage (from jumpers, pins, to diodes). But any of the main pcb adjustments/mods appear to be exactly the same for all three versions. That includes the clarifier unlock mod. VR50 is located right next to the clarifier pot itself on the control pcb, not on the main pcb. I've done only the wide frequency coverage and clarifier unlock mods, no alterations to ALC, POWER, Modulation, etc. I've put it through my spectrum analyzer, and it's got clean IMD figures. This is a really neat CB, and after 20 years, so should they be by now! You can really see that the days of the 858 and the 02A PLL's were the pioneers of this stuff... 73!

Uhhh no, Swamper.

The 1 kHz steps in the Delta Force are accomplished by additional parts not built into the Tomahawk. Sorry, it just doesn't know that trick.

Well, the display on this radio looks like a frequency counter, but it's not. It's what they call a "Programmed Display". It's what the computer TOLD the radio to do, not a measurement of what it DID. The HR-2510/Lincoln, RCI2950/70/90/95 and Magnum/Tomahawk radios are all in this category. That means that turning the clarifier will NOT change the display on one of these. The Galaxy/Connex/Superstar/General radios with separate LED channel digits and LED frequency display (and the Cobra 2000) are true frequency counters. Turn the clarifier and the numbers change. You'll need an external counter to see your clarifier work on transmit.
