Been hearing a lot of talk about mod'ing KLV and Palomar amps to work on 6m, but haven't seen a whole lot of practical info on how to do it, or which amps are good candidates.

If any one has a howto, schematic, or other good information on which amps and how to do this, I would love to have the information, and I'm sure others would too. I'll even provide some webspace to host it on if desired.

Email jxj2k(NOSPAM)hotmail.com or reply to this thread if you can help. Thanks!

I just orderd a KL-200 to try on 50mhz. One thing you want to look for in an amp to modify is the finals, look for SD-1446 final as they are designed to work at 50mhz. Also lok for amps that use a matching transformer other than thoride core, as most use materal 43 which kills rf above 30mhz. I will let you know what happens with my 200p when I get it, it has the a single 1446 and a easy wire coil to match the final so it may not need many moods and should do 75w am/fm and 125w on SSB with mf FT-817

OK the KL 200P will not work as is on 50mhz it cuts out around 35mhz. KLM does make a low drive rf keying amp for 47-49mhz, im shure it is ment for 6m but due to fcc rules about low input rf keying on 50mhz and below ham bands they lable it for this range. They use the same board as the KL200, just a few diffrent parts. The 6m model by KLM is the MOD 243 I wonder if copper can get these?

I've only seen info for tube amps and I've never tried it but some of the Palomar and Hy-gain amps could be converted to 50 MHz. While the 200x and the Skipper 300 claim to operate in that range, only the Palomar 50/60 instructions give specific information as to how to short or remove turns from the tank coil. The Hy-gain Afterburner also makes a reference to a modification although I think you would have to short one more turn than they indicate (40 MHz) to get to 50 MHz. The Skipper and 200x have a driver stage and I would assume you would have to make the same changes to that coil as you do the tank coil.

These posting are exactly what I'm looking for. I hope that someone can tell me what amplifier would be a good canidate for modification to 6 meters 50-54 mhz to operate on SSB CW AM and FM either tubed or solid state.

Hopefully either the KL or KLV type amplifier or Solid state palomar amps .I would like to know of any other type of amps that can be modified as well.

I certainly hope the KLV-400 is one of these canidates. Please let me know if you have this information I have several freinds that would like to know as well . thanks

the old tube smps will go on 6 short out a few turns on the output tank coil and your good to go.
Im running 100 watts FM/SSB and for many years ran a bearfoot ft-620 about 10 watts.
