Isn't that radio CW and USB ONLY ? I remember a rumor about changing a 22 MHz crystal to 20 MHz, making it a 26.0 to 27.7 MHz radio, but with the display still showing 28.0-29.7 MHz. You had to subtract two from the second digit to see where you are. Just what would be the point? I think I have heard about three people total speaking english on USB below 28 MHz in the last 5 years. Even fewer on CW. Lack of AM and LSB sounds like a bigger handicap than the frequency coverage to me. 73 |

there is a mod very similar to converting the 2510 for this radio. no changing of xtals. it was one time on qrz. if i can find the link, i'll post it. but like 2600 said, the radio would be basically useless unless you spoke spanish, or planned to use it only on 10mtrs(then why convert it anyway?) |

theres a conversion to get lsb as well, but it would eliminate cw. of course any tech could put in another cw board in line of course. i believe the link is www.mods./dk if im not mistaken. also while in there look up under uniden, there are a few good conversions in there. |

I acquired a HTX-100 from my neighbor, at no cost, and have converted it to lsb and opened it up for 11 meters. The radio now has CW/LSB and functions very, very well. True, it only has CW and LSB, but I only talk lsb anyway. After the modification the vfo will read 2.5 low if it is tuned correctly. There is also a quick power mod you can do. I will take a look at my paperwork and post the site that lists all of these mods with step by step instructions with pictures and all. Give it a shot, it was worth it to me. |

Galileo Yes, it is a very good USB ONLY radio. It will mod the same way that the HR-2510 will. Remove bottom and top covers. Remove the PLL board and tray that is held in by 2 screws on each side of the radio. After you remove the board you will see a 4 sided surface mount chip (IC 1208) that has 64 pins. Look to the right of the chip and locate the 4th and 5th pins from the top right of the chip, pins 28 and 29. Notice they are soldered together and run to a trace to a surface mount resistor. Carefully cut the trace next to the 2 pins. Now locate 2 rows of pins to the top of the chip. The bottom row last pin on the right has 5 volts DC on it. Solder a 10K resistor to that pin and to the pins 28 and 29. The radio will now tune 26 Mhz thru 30 Mhz. Jeff, kc0gxz. |
