I had a 40 channel 135xlr a few years back. It was modified when i bought it. It had an open clarifier and extended frequency. It started somewhere around 26.805 MHz and stopped at 28.045 MHz. It had the old 858 ic. The power suffers a bit with this mod but can be broadbanded some. I'm not sure about the older 23 channel versions. They were more than likely crystal phased units. The crystals can be channged for the desired frequency but are getting hard to come buy these days. A search on the internet will provide you with some good information.

Just reworking the chip, it should go from 26.085 up to 28.045.

You know, about 15 years ago, I did a ssb radio with the 858 chip and it was able, (with alot of broadbanding) to get it all the way to 29 mHz. I do not have the mod anymore, but maybe someone else does... |

Yea they will do voice band in 10m but not really broad enough since there not really built to do 28.495 to 26.805 as I remember it that was there top and bottom freq. But they tend to swing backwards or no swing in the band somewhere. Like the ole 139xlr. I still have my ole browning 23 channel I moded for 10m works good sure spent some cash on crystals though I learned alot doing it though. |

The 5080 would put you in the same boat as me, cdn... I've got an old sears roadtalker base with a 5080.. I've done too many old Cobra 32XLR's with the 5080.. don't get more than about 20 upper and 20 lower channels but it's good for noisy days. |
