Hey Weakeststation, funny I just got my Copper catalog yesterday and they had the "long" version of a article Tech833 wrote about how to choose a ground plane antenna. He compared quite a few antennas and much of the results depended upon height. Both of these antennas were compared as well as a few others.

I don't know if it's exactly what you are looking for, but look under the Subscribers Preview section, Articles, "How to choose a ground plane antenna" and you will see the review I'm referring to. Pretty interesting.

My Copper catalog (received Friday) doesn't have anything like that in it. Did I drop off the subscriber list or something?

Tech833,

my catalog I received Feb 13th is Volume 33, Issue #2. It has your article listed on the front cover right under "FCC News".

Great article I must add. Thank you for your efforts to educate all of us.

Ahha! I just found out that my subscription apparently ran out. I have asked to re-subscribe. My fault.

Well, okay, we get the idea! So can anyone just answer the question posed?? What is this new version antenna like?? Please enlighten all of us who don't have the subscribers issue catalogue! ha ha... No, on a real note I am sure alot of readers are curious as these new versions are fairly cheap etc. I await some feedback on how they perform !
Cheers

To my knowledge, there isn't an antenna on the market that will out-band the I-Max. I have tested many antennas and found the I-Max will easily out-band any of them with it's 3 meg of bandpass. If you are a out-bander, this is the one for you. 24 feet long, 5/8 wave lenght, and 3 meg of bandpass. What more could you ask for? No short 8 foot groundplane antenna can touch it.

Yep, The Imax is a great product. Plug-and-Play, for the most part, and very resilient.

I run an original Astroplane and it rocks!!!! I have a friend who has an I-Max, he lives in town near other people and had massive complaints of bleed over and TVI until he installed a filter. I live near a lot of people on a lake and no one ever has once asked me to kill the cb cause of any interference.

Just my two cents but fiberglass antenna's create a lot more racket than good ol aluminium.

I've run an Astroplane for years between 10-11-12 meters with no problem. Tried the A-99 and didn't like it, tried several others (of the time) but gravitated back to the Astro. With a 10db preamp I could hear mobiles in Titusville (65 miles north) and had no problem with transmit. My Ward719 mobile that I used for a base keys 3w and sweeps 22 watts. I always run a filter so never had TVI. At 48' the Astro did great but at 70' DX and local became like an oyster filed with multiple black pearls. A friend (who is no longer among us)asked for help once to put his in the air, well, his property was covered in 90' Austrailian pines. We went to a well supply company and bought five 20'x 2" well casings w/couplings. At 100" he could hear and talk (with 500w and no preamp)to the same stations on 3am ground wave that others could on beams w/500w and preamps.
As with all things there is always something better, but we must walk our own path and try to avoid the sandspurs along the way.

There was a post on here a while back comparing the I-Max with the A-99 & they were quoting DBI gain, not DB gain. There is a difference. If I remember right they said the I-Max had 3 DB dain. Well, my Avanti Astro Plane is 4.75 DB gain!!!
Just thought I'd throw that in....I'm a NEW group member. lightning9

The IMAx out receives the new astro plane hands down. as for output can't see any difference. also any radio will splatter if u overdrive them. have never had any complaints with neighbors unless they have touch lamps. those don't care what u use u will have problems. imax is almost 3/4 wave. tony/n5jva
