Anyone every changed the final to a MRF455?
Making a circuit board to mount the new final on is easy...BUT
Are any other component changes required? And what part do you use fo the temperature compensating diode (D164 or D165...can't remember)? My service manual shows an old part that is specifically designed for the MRF477 package...I have no idea what the part number is of the newer surface mount transistor they use is... |

use mrf 477 or mrf 495
did the mod 10 years ago. It worked well.
Becareful and note transistor orientation.
This mod is still on the net. |

The MRF477 was the origional part used in the radios, and I am not familiar with the MRF495...maybe you meant MRF497???
Anyway, both of those transistors (MRF477 and MRF497) have been discontinued by the manufacturer (Motorola), and are availble only in very limited quantities, with the prices reflecting their limited availability....
Anyway, I successfully installed the MRF455 and had some circuit boards printed up to accomplish the task.
This mod works VERY well, and this final will last longer than the rest of the radio!

Need HR2510 original finals? E-Mail me, I know where you can get them (there's a FEW left). Around $40 each.

I have Lincoln with a MRF455 final.Will a 2290 or a 2879 work in it as a simple drop in replacement for more power? Thank You for your help! |

Not a simple drop in replacement, but I posted the directions to installing this transistor. I think it's titled Amp Final In A Radio or something like that.
You might not want to completely tune the radio for maximum output though, cause I experienced over heating the capacitors past the last tuning slug. Of course, you can change them and all that, but I am lazy... |
