I peaked my Ranger TR-696F and it works great. However, I keep dead key down to 2 watts (swing to 10w) so the audio is clean when driving my amp. I noticed with about 5-6 w dead key, the swing reaches 20w. How can I have 2w dead key AND 20w swing?

Add about 6 1N4001 diodes in SERIES with the existing ANTI-SPIKING 1N4001 diode that is in the output trace of the audio transformer. This will drop the power at the same time keeping the swing up high...

Can this be done to a galaxy 33 radio also and if so, anyone have the diode number that is in the output trace of the audio transformer? And when you say in series with existing anti-spiking 1n4001 diode, you mean de-solder one side and continue on solidering the 6 in line in the same band direction and then solider the last one in the hole?

307,read about that mod I think at Defprom.another version of that same mod was to use a 7.2 volt-1/4 watt zener in place of the 1n4001.

Try this. You'll get plenty of swing with your Galaxy-33.

Remove R-238 and install a 1n4001 diode in its place with the banded end to the right towards the regulator.

Cut R-249 and then set your deadkey to 1.5 to 2 watts. Removing TR-32 will give you more modulation and swing BUT, you will have to be very careful to where you now set your Mic-Gain.

Using a power mic in combination with this modification has never been recomended by anyone that knows anything about an audio circuit.
