Well, in a nutshell you remove the case, unscrew the shield cover from the band switch circuit boards, find the front-most circuit board on the band switch shaft, unsolder the shield between that board and the one to its rear, remove whichever 10-meter crystal you don't need (like, maybe 29.5?), solder in the new crystal at the most impossibly awkward angle, and then put it all back together. The alignment can be done to favor 26 and 27 MHz, or 27 and 28. It can be aligned to cover whichever 2 MHz span you like. I was sure I had posted the band crystal frequencies for 26 and 27 MHz bands somewhere, but I can't lay my hands on it right now. I'll dig those out of the other computer and have it when I check back into Copper's Forum next time. 73 |

Found it! Band crystal frequencies for the Kenwood TS-520 26.0 34.895 MHz 26.5 35.395 27.0 35.895 27.5 36.395 28.0 36.895 28.5 37.396 29.1 (?) 37.995 The TS-820 is completely different inside from the 520. The band crystals are totally different. More alignment steps are needed than for the 520 when changing a band crystal. 26.0 31.5 MHz 26.5 32.0 27.0 32.5 27.5 33.0 28.0 33.5 28.5 34 29.0 34.5 29.5 35.0 This time I'll stash this in a text file to trot out next time someone asks. 73 |
