How do you tweak this radio for better modulation? Is VR5 the only adjustment possible ? Is there a diode that can be clipped like in the PC66 ? I don't see a D-9 like the 66. |

Adjusting vr 5 will give 100% in that radio. Clipping will not make it louder just add distortion. |

If you turn VR5 up all the way, it's practically the same as when you cut the mod limiter... If you cut the mod limiter, be warned ahead of time, that this could cause your radio to splatter other channels, and also put extra stress on other parts and compomnets in the radio casuing the life of the radio to be shortened... VR5 all the way up and a good power mic can't be beat... |

The PC68XL I'n referring to has the VR5 turned all they way up but the radio doesn't hold 100%. It will peak there but falls to 50-60 % after three or four seconds. Is this normal with this radio ? |

Although it shows that on your modulation reading instrument, if you listen to it on the air "as is" and then with it "clipped", the only difference you'll hear is distortion or a "raspy" sound in the audio. I don't know, but some consider that "louder". |

Thanks Tech671. I don't want it to sound raspy but was concerned that the modulation was falling off because of a design flaw in the radio's circuit. |

No flaw, it will show that on a modulation meter, but on air you can't tell it's doing that (usually). |
