Thanx Tech you are very helpful. However, I myself am obviously not a "Tech". Defeat? I need it explained a little more plainly. Hope I'm not asking too much.

Kingarthur,

On most of the tune up information you will need a GOOD SWR/WATT/MODULATION METER to use when doing the adjustments.

See link below for Meters and Information:

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/product_display.cgi?categories=METERS

Also always use a "PLASTIC SCREWDRIVER".

One slip with a Metal Screwdriver can short something out real quick.

You can get these at Radio Shack or most Hobby/TV stores.

Hook meter up with 3 foot jumper and adjust tuning pods/coils to maximum readings on Meter.

On Modulation always check the swing on meter when saying AUDIOOO or whistle to around 90% and that way you will not be over-modulated.

On the radios use a small tipped soldering Iron to slightly heat & loosen the wax in tuning coils. This will save you from breaking one.

Once the wax is soft you can remove it with the Plastic screwdriver or flat tooth picks.

On the ones that say Adjust or remove this generally means , you can adjust the Pod/Trimmer or cut a Resistor or Diode to disable.

The CB TUNEUP Books, Manuals, & TAPES that COPPER carries are EXCELLENT!
http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/product_display.cgi?categories=MANUALS

And will help you a lot if you are going to be dealing in a lot of used radios.

On the 66, it is hard to guess, could be a lot of things but for 50 cents you have a lot of spare parts.

If you are unsure about removing/replaceing parts just use the adjustment point's to tune radio.

Hope this will help you some.
