I know this has been brought up before, but does anyone have the freq mods for a TRC-485? I have looked high and low, from google to dogpile and have found some teasers that say it can be done, but nothing showing how.

Thanks for your time.

the trc-485 is the unmodifiable version of the eagle sidewinder 400, different cpu but same radio. I dont think you will have any luck finding mods.

Do you happen to know what the number is on the PLL chip? It's the big black chip usually behind the channel knob. If so, maybe I can help.

to badintermod: that's not what I wanted to hear ;^), but if thats the way it is, then thats the way it is...

to skullman: the cpu chip is HYU4011Q-06. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone

Well Wayne, Badintermod was pretty much right. I looked over the chip diagrams and the radio schematics and came to the conclusion that any type of channel mod would be very complicated and probably not be worth the effort. All you could do to it is a good power tweak and call it a day.

Thanks for the help. I really like the radio, just would like to play around with a few more channels. I have already done the power tweaks and peaks. I kept it at 4w AM and 12w SSB. I get plenty of swing on AM and SSB is clear as a bell. Did the clarifier mod and have really enjoyed that one. Another thing about my radio that I have found lacking is the SR/F indication and the squelch sensitivity. I adjusted those and now it works like I want. I have talked from Hawaii to Labrador (sp?) Canada on it during good skip. Not a bad radio for very little money.

I am looking for information on opening up the modulation on several differant CBs. Is there a book or website that is very good? I am limited in experiance so they would have to be easy to follow.

I am also looking for information on CB repair. Is there information, and pictures if possible ,out there of CB components and there functions?
Any guidance greatly apreciated and needed
