is there any other ways to tune the cobras, other than cutting D9 and D11 and turning the pot between the heat sinks.

I don't know what particular radio you are looking for, but here's a link to the adjustments inside all Cobra radios
http://www.radiomods.co.nz/cobravrlist.html

Don't clip anything it makes the radio to loud for most tastes. Try adjusting the VR's first. Another tip, make sure you have a good meter, not a "Rat"shack special.
Hope any of this helps.

The person who told you that you can get 50 watts out of that radio has serious problems. The Cobra 148 has a 18 watt MAX transistor in it. Most likely the meter he is using is out of calibration or he is out of calibration..

Sounds like the same guy that told me he could get about 50 watts out of my Galaxy 44. His meter showed it though. My meter told a different story. A 1969 final is only gonna do about 22 watts, or that's all I can get out of one. If anyone else know how to get more from this radio, please tell me. I have installed on in my Cobra 29 also, and it only does around 16 - 18 watts. The next time this guy tells you that, just say O.K.

What meter are you using and is it into a dummy load?

I have used a DOSY (a average power meter), Astatic, Workman and some other meter all PEP meters. I have two Cobra 29 LTD's. Both have the 1969 finals and 1957 drivers. Both key around 6 watts or better and both swing 22 on the average meter and around 40 on the PEP meter. My meters all match closely to the Bird 43 and buddy of mine has. We both run repair shops, though he is more advanced and experienced than I am.

The antenna I am using is a Solarcon A-99. I don't know what to tell you. I have since learned that the guy that said I was getting that magical 50 watts was using a PEP meter and I was reading my radio with a AVG meter. It's all about PEP anyway.

SWR has NO effect on PEP. NONE. SWR effects the power the radiating from the antenna, not was the meter is reading leaving the radio. Regardless of what backs up on the coax. You need to read about antennas and SWR. Read anything by Lou Frankin, and you'll understand what I am saying.

Channel kit is.. A or +A or both

Never took out the weather kit, don't know what to tell you there, except add echo and leave the weather kit in... You could put the echo control in the cal spot....

your probably right at the max now unless it's had the final swapped out, all my unidens that I've had that are real close to the 29 would only do about that max.
