Can a tx 500 be modified so it can be driven and does anyone know this modification? it has 4 2879's , I have a Dave made 4 pill that has the same pills and with a driver is capable of 1000 to 1200 watts depending on the voltage. My frend is dieing to drive his Texas star the same way ,My 4 pill is for sale and he wants it but i don't want to sell it to him if his Texas Star is capable of the same thing or close ,Hope to hear from you ! Thanks in advance,Dale,,BamBam_138 |

The Texas Star will do 850 watts or so with a 1 pill Texas Star that has a 2sc2879 in it. The Dead key has to be set at no more then 4 watts out of the 1 pill. Every now and then the 250 ohm pot will burn out, but you can put a 100 to 250 ohm in and keep going. Any other setup will not work right. |

A TS 500 Driven will not last long and will run as hot as a pistol. If you must drive it, with a reduction in life span, then leave the "dial a watt" button off and this will bypass the variable pot. The TS 500 is a great amp and will do 400-500 watts with a dual final radio driving it. Drive the poop out of it and it will make a great doorstop for your radio room very soon..... |

Your not correct if you think driving a TS 500 with a 1 pill will damage it. What do you think a TS 667 is? And no more than 4 watt dead key for a 4 pill????

you still wont get 1000 watts out of it,the dave made amp runs on higher voltage 18 or 24 volts were the 500 is only made to run on 13.8,that is the diffrence in power |

Agreed the DM, XForce and others like it are designed to withstand much higher voltage, but they will outperform a TS500 with a driver (667) under the same voltage input by at least 20% and do so with less stress on the final transistors that the TS. The best TS's are the 400 and 500 and are better not driven. |

When replacing the 250 ohm pot, what& where is the Best replacement found? My cherry 500V < 50 hrs. won't respond to the variable's settings other than off and max. I appreciate any information. Thanks, Nighthawk |

Thanks for the info. Why should I replace a 250 ohm pot with a 500 ohm? Does it make it easier to set and control? 73's Nighthawk |
