Rickinsc There are a few ways this can be done. Here is one of them....It will take a couple of crystals to do it. If the radio is not going to be used in 10 meters, then the crystals used for 10 can be taken out and replaced with 11 meter crystals. Take note of the frequencies written or stamped on the 10 meter crystals and then subtract 1Mhz from them. They can be ordered over the net from Jan's Crystals in Florida. Sorry but I do not recall their address. Chances are if Bruce sees this post, he will give you their Link. He has Links to everywhere. If you are planning to use your FT-101 on A-M, you are in for a big disappointment. The 101 uses Low-Level Modulation and tube life is dramatically shortened when used on A-M. That radio was designed and works very well for SSB operation. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Hello Jeff: Thank you very much for the help. I had assumed there was an actual mod involved but if I can just exchange crystals in say the 10a,b,c,or d slot why mess with trying to make the 11 slot do more than receive. I will get hold of Bruce like you noted he has already been a big help to me and sent me the op manual on my 2510. Again I thank you for the info and glad Copper has this forum as it is a great asset. Rick |

I believe the crystals are in the 32-33 meg range. Copper use to sale them in the old days, bet their tech could tell you. I always thought the 101 series had pretty good modulation on am, the big problem was, if they don't have the am filter, they are really narrow receive, hard to use, its like tuning SSB, and since most radios are off a little on AM, you will be constantly tuning, if your one on one, ok, but listening to several will require tuning back and forth. |

Rick, I found one of my old Copper books, they sold three crystals for the 101: 32.520, 33.020 and 33.520. I believe all three would get you from 26.500 to 28.000. If you don't want to go below channel 1, you would only need the 33.020 and 33.520 crystals. I don't know if Copper still has them or not, but you can get them from Ken's electronics. Since your on a VFO the crystals don't have to be right on, just so they get where you wanna go. scrapiron

Crafter, your right about that, nothing surprises me on e-bay. I've seen lots of things bring more on there than new ones cost, guess they just like to bid, or don't know any better. |

OK I took out my 33.020 crystal and switched it with the 34.020 crystal and low and behold it works. Thanks again Jeff for the info. Yes scrapiron63 I do believe the 3 crystals you mention along with the 33.020 will get me from 26-28 mhz. Crafter I will send you an email for 3 of your crystals if you are willing to part with them. I wish to sincerely thank everyone for the information and hoping one day to return the favor. |

Biggdog, you'll have to get some help from one of the techs on that 101, its been probably 5 years since I've had one, don't even have a manuel anymore. I'm sure it can be helped though. |

theres alot more to moding the ft 101 radios the mode switch needs moded u need a 6khz am filter u need to americanize the tubes cause they dont make the original toshiba tubes so it has to be changed thers more than meets the eye to what needs to be done to thoes radios let alone knowing how to run it & tune it properly or u will have a big pile of expensive junk if u dont know how to run it |
