Anyone know where I can get all the technical specs on an rci 2980? Or a possible website for mods? I'm talking everything all the way down to which resistor controls the length of the roger beep. I'm just curious how much I can get that carrier to swing on am without cutting anything.

Tech808, I've already checked that website! Thanks!! I just wanted to know what I can do for more power on am without cutting anything. I've heard since these are dual final radios that they can do 35 watts. Does that sound right to you? Sideband is awesome doing 35-40 right now but am is not too hot!

Well, here's the deal on this radio I got. My tech and I cannot get this radio to swing anymore than 15 watts on am. That's it!! There was another tech that had his hands in here before and did some tinkering around with but we have no clue what to do next. This has the dual 2312 finals in it and it should do more than that. My tech checked the variable on the modulation and that had no effect. The resistor for audio was still in line and we cut it just to see if there was a difference but nothing so we soldered it back in. Only mod's done on this radio that I know of was that npc diode was done to R239 so I'm wondering about that one. That I guess takes the deadkey down and has no effect on the swing. Another mod was clarifier opened up on tx and rx. The warbling was fixed that's common on these for sideband use. As far as that, I am running out of idea's on what to look for. My tech has a lot of knowledge on these boards and we're both stumped. Any idea's people? I would highly appreciate any input because I've posted this in the open forum and got no results!! Thanks!!

Hmmmmm
I jusg got a 2980 today and it does every bit of 35 to 40 swing on top end and about 20 to 25 on low end with only a 3 watt carrier. SSB it does every bit of 45 to 50.. ***DISCLAIMER** But this is on a dosy meter.
I wonder if there is a NPC or PPC mod that i can do that i can get max swing with the carrier set on low or high and still maintain the 30 to 40 watts pep swing???

thanks bluebird. no problem. Cm3885, sounds like you have the same thing as what I got on the radio. If you turn the deadkey up to like 8-9 watts, I get a higher swing but when I turn it down to like 2 all I get is no more than 15 watts. This is way odd. First time i've ever owned a 2980 but i have a 2950 that has the dual fianls in it and I can easily get 30-35 watts on the am side for swing. Hmm? I'm still stumped on this radio.

Boxcar..
IM lookinf for a good PPC or NPC mod so i can set my carrier anywere between low and high and still maintain my top end swing.. I like the 2980 but i know it ca do a lot more than i see now from it...
