Jon666,

Just a silly question but you posted you had just ordered a new Connex 4800DXL.

Why would you want to VOID the warranty by breaking the Warranty Seal by opening it up and adjusting anything?

Also I have noticed that you have had terrible luck with radio's from your Forum Post's.

If I might make a Suggestion When your New Connex 4800DXL Radio Arrives, try it out / use it and you might find that it Does NOT need any extra adjustment's of any kind.

With the Warranty Seal intact should any problem's arrise your Warranty will cover them.

Just my thought's

Lon

Hey Jon,

The best way I can think of to turn up the mod on these type of radios is to hook up a good power mic and turn that "mic gain" knob on the front to about 1 or 2 o'clock. My Euro gets a little ridiculous if I turn it past that.

Anything over 100% modulation will sound like •••• anyways. When you receive this radio, it "WILL" have more modulation than you'll know what to do with.

Like Lon says, why throw your warrenty out the door. But if you insist, here it is.

Q39 (TR39) is the modulation limiter for the EPT690010Z board. For the SSB rigs, it is recommended to place a 1K Ohm resistor in series with the emitter leg of Q39. Removing the limiter on the SSB models causes severe "audio garble" while in the SSB mode.

Ample performance may be achieved by simply turning up VR16 and wiring a good aftermarket power microphone for use with the radio.

If it were mine, I'd leave it alone. You have a great radio on the way to you. Wait awhile before you "improve" on the good work that 307 has already painstakingly done for you.

Good luck with you new radio.

Jeff, kc0gxz.

I would second that suggestion.
Leave the seal on and try it.
The Lincoln that you bought from Copper works great!! I now have it. LOUD modulation is not the answer to a good radio.

i got a galaxy saturn and on am im loud i mean really loud, modulation is way over 100% any one to close gets blasted with to much modulation so the mic gain is always turned down half way or more. when i say to close i mean like 10-20 miles away. on side band ask cef# 294 hes about 1700 miles away and on the nets he says its like im siting in the room with him hehehehe. on side band my mic gain is on .5 talking local and im still very very loud and thats like 10-35 miles. if i was u leave it the way it is why do somthing that makes u so loud u have to turn it down any way. P.S when im talking skip i turn every thing up and every one loves how i sound when i was talking to cef# 294 i was runing 7 on the mic gain and rf power was set at is max (dead key 4 watts swinging 40 on am and ssb)
