I want to open up my audio (remove alc) on my 2985DX. I am told that I need to remove Q43. I can not find Q43. I have been looking for almost a week. I assume it is not marked. Does anyone know where it is on the board & if Q43 is the correct mod to remove the ALC? Also, are there any other mods for this radio? I also have an RCI 2990DX (Hi power version of the 2985DX. The boards in both radios are just about the same except of the power section. I can not find Q43 on that one as well. Thanks Audioman |

I have D-43 in my book, which is the mod limiter, i wouldn't suggest removing it.. Thier are other things that can be done without removing the mod limiter.. Secret stuff... Its not good to remove the mod limiter, i have a location point in my book.. Their are some schematics that can be found on the web, i can tell you that with the radios front against your belley, that D 43 will be located near the front on the right side.. I like dividing the radio into quarters, the right quarter of the front of the radio.. Find the layouts, and then you will no were to look on them to locate it... The book i have has been reviewed by Popular Communications Magizine, and this is the best MOD book i have ever seen in existence... |

Audioman Starting at the very right-front of the circuit board, work your way back along the side of the board. This is part of the audio section. In this section, you will sooner or later run into Q-43. Doing a Negative Peak Compression modification to this board has far better results than ripping out the audio limiter. Removing Q-43 also disables the ability to control SSB power. Check the Copper Archives and you will see how this NPC-RC is done. Jeff, kc0gxz. |
