i pulled an old amp out of storage becasue i was thinking about selling it so i figured i'd try it out and make sure it still worked.i know it was putting out 400 watts when i put it away about a year and a half ago well now it's only keying 100 watts and the swr varies from a flat match thru the roof with the vairiable cap anyone have any ideas.btw it's a strait 8 transistors all 2sc2879's thanks |

I would say pull each component and check value,resistors and caps and if correct resolder,if you made this then you probably have test equipment if not get it to a tech.,even 400 is low for 8 2879s that unit with 25 in should put out 800 or there abouts,sounds to me you had gradually failing pills,so get it to a tech for testing. |

as far as testing pills is it acturate to test them with an ohm meter from what i'v been told if theres restance only between the base and emmiter and the base&collector when i got it i pulled all the pills and had them tested at a cb shop i was working at 1 was bad so i replaced just that one and put it all back together but never tried it since then untill now.when i got it it was doing 400 watts with 10 watts in thanks jason |

If it is straight 8, 10 watts is not near enough drive power to get full power out of the pills. 400 watts with 10 watt drive is pretty good! |

you mis understood me i was getting 400 over a year ago now i can only get 100 out of it and the swr is thru the roof thanks jason |
