Audioman,

To get talkback in the 2995DX you need to remove an SMT to achieve this.

As the SMT's are NOT MARKED and without Schematic's I would NOT suggest trying it.

And if you do not have the Proper VERY FINE TIPPED SOLDERING Equipment and VERY GOOD Eyesight to do SMT work you can really mess things up.

And even if you do the Talkback Mod it WILL NOT BE A LOUD TALKBACK so really it is not worth doing in my opinion.

I agree,

I have a friend of mine that did it on that radio. He was dissapointed by the fact that after going through all the hassle of doing such fine detailed work, he got so little out of it that you could barely hear it in his opinion. It most certainly wasn't worth his effort.

Cuddlebear & Audioman,

I have done it to my 2995DX & 2970DX as a learning tool for working with the SMT's.

Like I mentioned above it does give you a LOW Volume Non Adjustable Talkback but it is enough to test mic's and check modulation.

Would I waste the time to do it again? NO

Would I recommend doing it? NOT unless you have had experience working with SMT's and Low Temp Soldering.

One little solder splatter or too much heat can cause a problem.

Just my thought's.

Audioman

RF Limited has a unit called the "UTB". It is a completely separate audio board and amounts to nothing more than an audio amplifier that works in "ALL MODES". These are very nice units and are not costly. Check Coppers and see if they still have them availible.

The UTB talk-back boards produce a "real" controlled talk-back. All others are nothing other than a form of "feedback" talk-back. The RF Limited UTB board allows you to have full control (ON/OFF Volume) of your talk-back.

This is just one of the many great features that come standard at no extra cost when buying a RF Limted Magnum radio. No other radio on the market has the features of the big Magnums. Not to mention owner/repairability. You wont be doing that with a SMT radio.

psssssssssssssssssttttttttttttt

I hate to tell everyone this but the Omega Forces and S-3's and other RF Limited / Magnum International Radio's incorporate both Old and SMT Technology.

Better Technology and SMT means Better Radio's, Better Warranties, Better Performance More Durable and More Reliable and Less Problem's for the people owning them.

Did I hate SMT's when I first seen them YES!

But time's change and so did I.

From Tube's & Crystal's to modern day radio's & SMT technology we have come a longggggggggggg way.

If someone would have told me 30 years ago someone could buy a radio with NO Tubes or Crystal's with 50 watts of power and No Amp's or Mods needed I would of thought they were nut's.

Just my thought's.

After this talk back conversion is done, you will find out that to increase it, you are to swap to of the smt resistors around..
This isn't much of a improvement as well.. I would suggest just plain and simply not to do this mod to the radio...

Instead it would be a wonderfull idea to pick up the UTB-1, which is the universal talk back board.. It will work in all radios, and it will also give you the ability to have variable talkback at the same time.. They came out with a winner with this board......

Again,

I agree with Weakeststation. The UTB boards are your best and less costly option to the alternative. Alternative being a possible mistake while doing the mod. I myself have never used a UTB board in my radio. However, have seen them utilized by people I know in my area with excellent performance. I have seen no complaints on any of them that my friends use.
