I just purchased a new Galaxy 2517.
I would like to know what if any mods should be done to this radio.
I was planning to put my D104 as well as a KLV 350 on the radio.
Do I need to do anything or should this combo work well. Is there anything else I should know about the 2517?
Thanks

Congratulations on your new Galaxy! Other than converting it for 11 meters and a tuneup, you are all set! The KLV 350 is a great amp choice for that radio, I have one hooked to my 2517 with an Astatic 10Dal microphone, and it is swweeeeet! I drive the KLV with a 2 watt deadkey on AM, and on SSB I run the RF power on the radio all the way down (about 15-18 watts peak) On Low setting on the KLV I see just under 200 watts, I forget what it does on High, (not 350), but I never need to run it on high and RM suggests this only for short periods.

What about expanding the frequencies on up into 10 meters? When I got mine converted for cb I lost most of 10 meters. Is there anything you can do to expand it on up into 10 meters and keep the 11 meters as well?

Well, I don't think this radio covered all of 10 meters in the beginning. Isn't it advertised from 28.300 to about 28.000?

Another vendor used to sell a "12 band kit" for the 2517. You'll notice the Connex 4800 has 12 bands, and uses the same PC board as the 2517. Galaxy for whatever reason just put out the 2517 with 6 bands, but it isn't hard to get the 12. (you just need the right parts and know where to put them) You would also probably need to align the radio.

I just now realized that the 2980WX has 12 bands, I wonder if it covers 10 meters when modified for 11?

That's a good question especially if you are a ham already, like me. I was surprised that I didn't have much 10 meter coverage on the 2517. Great talking and receiving radio but can't understand why it has less frequencies than my Lincoln.
