If it's a 10 Meter radio, then it's a far cry away from a Cobra-148 GTL. The 148 is a CB, not a 10 Meter radio.

Jeff.

I just got ahold of a General Sherman new in the box.. These radios are nothing other than a rebadged Texas Ranger TR-296, which is 40 channel legal 11 meter radio .. Even says TR-296 on the back panel where it has it's statement about being FCC Type accepted..

With that in mind - a TR-296 was 99.9% the same radio as a Cobra 148 GTL. Only difference my tech could see was that there was an RCI chip in place of a different chip that is found in the Cobras..

One difference between it and the TR-296 - this has talkback built into the radio.. If you switch the dimmer switch to high , the lights go higher AND talkback comes on.

This was by design though, the dimmer switch has TB above the HI marking.. Not an afterthought addition..

I'm so impressed with this radio I am heading back to the store today and picking up a 2nd way to store away - who knows how much longer a Cobra 148GTL based radio will be available!
