I have a friend that lives in my town. He has a 2995dx and he told me that he had it modded to do 400w! i ask him what does that entail and he said he wasnt sure as the guy that did it didnt show him. Is this possible and does anyone know how to do it. I know someone is going to say that he added an amp inline but there is not! Thanks |

Radiodude Take your dummyload, power meter and volt meter over there and hook it up to his radio and see if this wonderous claim is in fact true. In the first place, the stock power supply isn't capable of supplying the needed amperage that the amplifier requires to generate 400 watts of RF power. However, the radio may possibly get close to the 400 watt mark if the tech cranked the supply up to 16 volts. And if that is the case, tell your friend not to expect a long life from his radio. Personally, I've never seen a pair of 2290 RF power devices used in an amplifier produce 400 watts of RF power. 300 watts or a bit more at best into a good load with a flat SWR. Check the output voltage on the power supply. I'm willing to bet that it has been foolishly cranked up to 16 volts or beyond. Jeff, Tech548. |
