Anyone know of a mod to remove the detent from the coarse tune on the double clarifier? sometimes the only way to get on freq on SSB is to set the clarifier right on the very edge of the detent and then it will slip back in the "hole" and be off again..
or is there a way to remove the stock clarifier and install a regular pot for the clarifier and not have the double ??

I have the same problem with my 2980. Most stations seem to clarify right at the detent point.

Well i took the clarifier apart today and looked at it..
However there is a very small clip that holds part of the center shaft together and i couldnt get it off so i put it all back together. Ill ask around and see if anyone has a mod so i can use just a one shaft clarifier like in a cobra.. The double clarifier is annoying epsecially when the radio is on freq right at the edge of the detent... LOL

Just replace it with one that doesn't have the detent. Why radio designers ever went that route is beyond me. To me, it was a pretty idiotic thing to do to a SSB radio.

Just take one out of a junked-out radio. Many radios (including CBs) use dual pots.

Read the value that's stamped on the side of the original. But just about any dual pot will work as a clarifier.

Jeff.
