Is it possible to change the color of the lighting on either a Magnum 257 or 357? Not that it looks bad, and maybe I am just nitpicking, but I would like to change the color of the lighting to match that of the rest of the displays in my car.

Has anyone done this on one of these 2 radios?

Thanks.

The bulbs in those radios are very, very tiny. And sooner or later you will be replacing them anyways because they appear to have a short life span. Also, these bulbs are rated and wired to a 6 volt source in the radio.

What many guys have been doing when 'burn-out' time comes is to replace them with 12 volt bulbs and wiring them directly to the ON/OFF switch...one lead goes to the switch and the other will go to ground.

I don't recall off-hand how many bulbs are behind the display but I think there are perhaps 3 or 4. You can easily get by with only 2 bulbs wired at each end of the display using the existing 'bulb-holes'.

Radio Shack has quite a variety of sizes and colors to choose from.

747,

You may also be able to use one of the MCL-KIT's made by EKL that are used in the New Magnum Line which would give you 5 colors to choose from.

I will talk with Sam or Eric this week and see if it will fit the older 257 & 357 radios.

I should have the MAGNUM 257 in for a review in the next week or so and NO MORE BULBS to Burn out in it and it has the CP1 Speech Processor in it also. And many more new goodies.

How about changing the bulbs in my yeasu 2 meter? to blue? I figures it would be the same as when I changed my 2950 over, will it? My xm reciever and S9 are blue, just thought it would be cool if everything matched
