I have a guestion for you Mag-257 owner/experimenters.

Have any of you ever heard or know of a NPC/RC modification that can be done to the Mag-257/357 series of radios? If so, would you care to share it with the other 257 owners here on our forum?

I am very curious if this radio is even capable of it.

Jeff.

Jeff, what exactley is a NPC/RC modification? I have a post 2000 year Magnum 257 that has been modified to talk with 10 bands and all bands have got five extra chanels. All of the extra chanels are labelded with an A. With the particular mod my radio has got the 100 and 10kc steps do not work only the 1kc works but I do no need a 10k switch for the RC chaneles if this is what you are talking about.

The modification that was done to your radio was the frequency modification which consisted of a simple diode cut.

The Negative Peak Compression Reduced Carrier modification I am refering to is something all together different.

This (NPC/RC) modification pretty much turns the final section "linear" and greatly enhances the A/M mode.

Well, it's has been more than a week since I made the above post concerning a possible NPC modification for the little Mag-257. It appears that either no one has experimented with this type of radio or it just can't be done.

I'll dig one up and see what I can come up with. If anything looks promising, I'll let you 257 owners in on it. Keep your fingers crossed.

Jeff, I sort of figured that I was way off on this one. If you find anything out on the NPC/RC mod please pass it along I would be interested in this one.

I read somewhere a 1n914 diode and a 100 ohm 1/4 resistor does the trick.
