I have a Cobra 2000 GTL that has uppers and lowers, however, I do not have to throw any switches to activate them. The channel selector knob shows channe;s 41-100 on the uppers, and -01 to -60 on the lowers. In other words the LED has been replaced in the unit to show 3 digits instead of 2, and I do not have to throw any switches such as the ANL or NB or Speaker switches to get these channels.

I want to have another Cobra 2000 modified this EXACT way, however the last place that did this is no longer in business. Does anyone know of a place that does THIS type of frequency modification, WITHOUT having to throw switches??

I think that's done with programming IC chips. I saw one on *bay that had an added board inside with 13 IC's, 3 ribbon cables coming off of it and some other components. Another cool thing it did was when you were on 27.195, the channel display showed 19A.

He called it the Cobra 2000 Plus.

Sounds pretty slick! Sorry I can't illuminate it any more, but I would be interested to hear how it was done and how it works (stability and so forth.)

Thats correct all "A" channels show up as such. It is done with programming chips. It works great and you do not lose ANL/NB/speaker switches.

If I could copy it by finding the ALL the correct parts I would. But this is not possible.

Anyone know where this can be done??

Start studying eprom programming. I doubt the chips used are off-the-shelf pre-programmed.
