It can be done but at the loss of transmit due to the PLL going into "out-of-lock". The procedure is in detail in Kevin Ross' book "CB Modification Secrets".....the only real way to get "extras" is to change the mixer crystal, but you knew that;-) |

How to make Cobra 29LTD,Classics slide on TX & RX 1)Remove D-18 , R-110 , C131 and R-112. 2)Put jumper were R-110 was. 3)Take orange wire from delta tune and unsolder it from board then resolder it to Tr-23 (Solder to the pin closest to front of board. It should have around 8 VDC on this pin.) 4)Put radio back together and if all is done right you should slide transmit 5-6 KCs up and down. For more slide change D-16 to a 1N-4007 there you go! |

OK. Nobody ever told me what slide was, and I know now. My question now is why would anyone want a AM 11 meter only radio to slide? I mean is freq drift that common a problem? Or are you guys talking about doing this to radios that have added channels? |

Therealporkchop Slide and/or slider is a slang term. Sliding is when you have enough clarifier range that allows you to actually move one complete channel (usually) down. In otherwords, instead of "channeling" down, you are "sliding" down by turning your clarifier all the way to the minus position. The only advantage to this is being able to get to the (A) channels that lay between 3-4, 7-8, 11-12, 15-16, and 19-20. The above mod will only allow a slide of around a half channel (5KHz) spacing...not a whole channel (10KHz) spacing. And being that the Cobra-29 is only a A/M radio, the mod is hardly worth the bother. I hope this may have shed a little bit of light on what a "slider" is. Jeff Tech548 |

ever try keying 1000 watts on 27.145 when the kids $100 radio shack rc truck is driving in the backyard? believe it or not, sometimes it bucks and turns and does other funny things, and sometimes it appears to have NO effect at all!strange! |

Patzerozero,Imagine an rc pilot watching his $1000 airplane doing the same thing!(unintentionaly)Our flying field is right along a highway and a lot of warped minded drivers seem to get a kick out of trying just that! |

yup you're right dindin, it's one thing to intentionally mess w/the kids in the backyard, it's more than just a warped mind to do it intentionally to any $ rc airplane-not just wrecking the plane, but what it crashes into, etc. fortunately (most?) use fm and, what, 72 mhz in the attempt to avoid that problem. |

Patzerozero, the majority of flyers are using 72 mhz and 6 meter but even with our newer narrow-band PCM and digital receivers the less than 300mw transmitters can easily be interfeered with by a 100 watt cb.Alot of the newer PCM radios have a failsafe mode but when a plane is flying anything other than a strait and level path its worthless. And there are nostalgic events that require the pilot to use vintage equiptment which is all 27mhz. |

there are not too many places here on long island where rc aircraft can legally be flown. hopefully those of us who choose to do what shouldn't be done don't interfere. it may be a poor excuse, but life isn't always easy and accidents do happen, whether it's a $100 rc truck, $1000 rc plane or $1000000 boat...... |

Patzerozero - ever see an RC jet in person? Those things are amazing. I can't imagine spending that kind of cash on a toy. |

no, haven't seen any rc aircraft nearby since they turned the field that used to be near me into a bread factory years ago. my kids have $300 electric power rc 4x4's(one of which, tamiya clodbuster) has modifications that would need me to remortgage the house to pay for! and the gas powered rc's they want this xmas could run over $500 each, before the mods they want. seeing as donald trump has problems w/women, maybe he could just adopt me. heck, he could adopt my kids, instead! |

Hi all: I remember when I was 13,I got a little free fliying mode helicopter,(NO R/C)for Xmas. My father was doing some construction in front of this big open field and during weekdays,I will fly my toy. One weekend I went to fly my toy,and 3 guys with R/C planes were fliying they toys, they kick me out of the field, you can not fly your toy because will make ours crash. Smart boy wait patienly the whole week,in the mean time,I hook up a 150 Watts Amp to my father's 23 Ch. AM CB in his Pick Up truck, and key-up while they were fliying they planes on the weekend. I crush them planes to the ground, just saying Hola in the air,I seem them planes doing weird moves, you should see the joy I have when they crush them planes. Little boy was just talking to his boddies locally unaware of any interference, very inocent.Yeah Right,I knew what I was doing. Better watch out for somebody like me with a twisted mind while you play with your R/C Planes. Just a funny experience to share with you all. Best Regards. Tecnicoloco. CEF-117 Mexico. |
