what that means is:
1-you should read lou franklins screwdriver experts guide to cb radios
2-you should read lou franklins understanding and repairing cb radios
----both of which should be available from copper
3-you should find a local, reputable technician, or be willing to ship your radios to a reputable technician
----because----
until/unless you familiarize yourself with what you're doing, your repair bills will be astronomical and you'll leave this hobby quicker then you got into it.
a suggestion, pick up a used cobra 25 or 29, or uniden pc 66 or 76, wait til you find one really cheap-someone getting out of the hobby, selling one they don't need anymore, etc, as long as it works properly, and most definitely unmodified. maybe you can get it for $50 or $25 or less. then buy a decent soldering iron from radio shack, and tackle some of the basic mods you've read about. wire up a power mic for it. put a roger beep into the radio. add an (ugh) echo inside the radio, put another noise toy in it. peak it, do the (ugh ugh) limiter clip-better yet, put it on a switch, get an expo kit and add channels to it, if by then you feel comfortable with what you're doing, you can move on to bigger and better things. you'll also learn which mods really help you, and which are a waste of time, effort and money. or you'll decide you may be better off paying someone to do it for you.
everybody on this forum probably felt the same way you do when they wanted to do their first mod, some probably still do...then there are those of us.........
