I may be wrong but my understanding is + or - .40 for upper or lower channels
so 27.415-27.855 would be an 11.7258 crystal etc.
But why?
The 148 uses the MB8719 chip which can cover those freqs plus with out a crystal switch!

I believe those radios use a tripler, so for 40 channels up you would need a 11.4758 crystal.

Bulldog,
Yes the 142's need a crystal change first, why I dont know...
The 148's use the same pll and dont at least not the ones I've modded

the reason that the 142 needs the xtal change is because of the way the n-codes are set up. the most significant pin is pin 10. changing the logic of this pin will cause the radio to jump 64 channels. in the 142gtl, the radio will jump down 64 channels, in the 148gtl, it will jump up 64 channels. you must first change the xtal in the 142 to get the upper channels, so that the new xtal is for the upper channels, and switching pin 10 creates the jump down to the regular 40.
this mod is only possible with the mb8719, the mb8734 cannot be modified in this way.
BTW, the stock xtal in the 142 is 11.1125mhz.
hope this helps

11.1758 takes you down and 11.4758 takes you up.

Bc, I have a grant xl that has been modded w/ a xtal, don't remermber the number right now. But It goes from 26.515 to 28.045 without sliding. If I slide down frm 26.515 I can start at 26.495 and go to 28.065. let me check the #, the xtal in my xl is a 11.1758.
