1861 Once you have had a 257 you'll understand why the HTX-10 ham only one is so loved by the guys on 10 meters. It's like a timex just keeps DX-ING! |

Bruce - Does the HTX-10 have CTCSS and repeater offset built in? |

The HTX-10 DOES have offset built in and i have used it. It has a crude tone board which is useless so before i got my DR-M03 i used a small tone board which worked well. Now if im going to play with REPEATERS only i can swap radios out and use the M03. On AM, SSB and FM simplex and non toned repeaters the HTX-10 holds its own with just about anything. I have not tried the offset in my 257 yet but im shure it will work just as well...... |

What makes it's tone board crude? Difficult to change tones? Limited number of tones? I can't believe there are any 10 meter repeaters that aren't tone protected. Our local 10 meter repeater had to change tones last summer because another repeater on the same freqeuency changed it's tone to ours. It was being keyed by skip! |

If anyone has a copy of the ARRL Repeater Directory they will find the ratio is about 40-60% with the 60% being Non-Tone. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Thanks for the info Lon. I wouldn't have guessed that 60% of 10 meter repeaters are open due to propogation and the narrow range of repeater input frequencies. In my area I don't know of any 10m repeater that isn't tone protected. I don't buy repeater directories. I bought one when I was first licensed and found it was incomplete and full of errors for the machines in my area. I can only imagine the same goes for the rest of the country. Instead I use the internet or just ask on simplex. I wonder how many of the 60% that are listed as open actually are? |

Bruce - I read something on the web about the HTX-10 having a single tone of 88.5 when you enable it's split function. Is that what you mean by crude? The tone board in the HR2600 is a little cumbersome because to change tones you have to take the case off and flip dip switches. It also has a limited number of tones. But it works. |

The ARRL Repeater Directory is updated Yearly and over the years we have found roughly 90% of the repeaters listed are active. As with everything there are several hundred added each year and several hundred that are removed/closed. There are also several hundred Private Repeaters that are owned by individuals that are not listed as well and that change hands each year. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |
