Anyone know a cure for a +1 Khz start when first turned on. My VR9000 goes to "normal" after 10 minutes or so. When new, it didn't do this,but recently started. Thanks, Ross |

All radios drift from cold to warm. You didn't notice it before but it happened. Unless you want to do a great deal of modification to the radio there is nothing that you can do to fix it. |

Thanks, Didn't know if it was an inferior crystal or what. When new, the onboard freq. counter was on freq. at "turn on" with tx & rx normal (hearing rx and watching tx on an external freq. counter). Never noticed any problem until the radio got older. Ross |

You could wire in a primitive "crystal oven" consisting of a "grain of wheat" bulb like the kind in your radio's meter.
You would hook it up to your radios "on switch" (+ 13.8 Vdc) and chassis ground. The bulb should be attached to the crystal (or crystals) by using fusable tape. By doing this, your crystal (s) will stabalize in about two minutes in most ambient temperatures.
We used to do this in the Army when using older PRC 22s in cold cliimates. It worked well with them.
Some hams use this method with microwave SSB transmitters. So, I see no reason it wouldn't work with CBs. |

Hi Kilowatt. Was thinking along the same lines, until the friend I loaned this radio to for a trip, "fessed up" that he had some problems and took it to a chop shop in Denver. When I got it back, I found that I no longer have control over USB (38 lower and AM are okay, but upper is showing at 27.400). After checking around on the board, I found several "solder over" points on the foil side. I requested on another post for anyone to please let me know where I can get a photo / drawing of the foil side of this board to compare with. Thanks for your help, Ross |

Dang, I HATE chop shops!!! We've got a couple around here. I wouldn't even send a 23 channel Kraco to them...
