Does anyone know if the 40db attenuator is adjustable
inside the radio? I checked the usual places, and can't find any adjustment for it. I find the switch pretty useless in its current setting, since it takes out even the strongest signals.

When the switch is in the "OFF" position, the 1K resistor R904 is shorted to ground, grounding that part of the RX circuit. When the switch is in the "PAD" position, the resistor is introduced into the circuit, allowing more of the 8V to be added to the circuit...the amount set by the combination of R904, R233 (1.5K), and ground. You could replace the fixed resistor, R904 (1.0K), with a 1.0K variable potentiometer

That's an interesting radio. No RF gain control - just an attenuator switch. You can turn on the roger beep or echo - but not both. Yet there are switches for the frequency counter and the "Super Slider" controls which most people will probably never change. The echo is adjustable, but you have to take the covers off to do it.

had galaxy thought to put the mic on the SIDE of the radio instead of the front, & rethought some of the front knob placements, there'd be room for an RF gain! & even the echo controls could have been external.

Thanks for your thoughts. This radio has plenty of quirks and mine had a couple of bugs. Galaxy has been nothing but great though, and the 2 year warranty seems like it may come to good use. I already had to have Galaxy send me a new echo board, since the echo refused to turn off totally when switched off. As for how it works, it's a screamer on AM and SSB. I've already made many DX contacts, using minimal power.

WOW!
That much trouble, I would have just sent it back and demanded a new one!!!
Is there such a thing as a lemon law for CB's too? Probably not

I bought my 95T not liking it as much as I do now. Whoever designed those quirks into it sure left his mark but the aspects of it that do work, work great. It seems everyone including Cobra now has their own version and the 95T price continues to drop. Mine has been nothing but great and I am seriously considering a second one as I am sick of running the one I have from the truck to the base. It's great for what it is, a nice little toy that really gets out.
