Does anyone here have plans for building your own transistor or tube amp? One that includes a part list and all. I'd like to build one I could plug into the wall. A mobile unit would be nice too. |

Therealporkchop, Do a GOOGLE SEARCH for: Lou Franklin You will find he has the TRI-POWER Broadband Mobile RF Linear Amplifier Detailed Construction Plans so you can build your own with Complete parts list and suppliers. The ARRL also has several different plans for building Amplifiers & other radio equipment. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Duck246, In your first post you did not ask about building an amplifier. Your Question in the Open area was: Posted on Sunday, April 17, 2005 - 7:38 pm: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have come across a tripower amp. It's not working however, the preamp does work. The main problem is it does not key up. I do not hear a relay kick in, do I am not sure exactly what the deal is. Also, the power switch has to be in the OFF position for the preamp to work... Strange.. It has 2 MRF454's in it. And since I did not have any advice or personal knowledge on this amplifier with the components you mentioned and No One had posted to your Question in over a month I made the below post to you. Posted on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 - 9:50 am: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Duck246, Sorry I cannot find any information on this amp to offer you any help. Maybe one of the other Copper Forum Members will be able to help. Or re-post this question in the Ask The Tech » Amplifiers area of the forum. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN As I have said and posted many times before No one will ever hear me say I know everything about anything. I will continue to try and learn something new every day the same as all of the other Copper Forum Members do or anyone involved in the Radio Hobby. And since I have worked on very few amplifiers over the years (except my own) I am not going to even guess at or suggest something that can cause damage or harm to equipment or the person involved. Sorry, but I still do not know anything about it other than the information on the internet (From doing a "GOOGLE" search on Building Amplifiers) and Lou Franklins site which does not list any information except that you can order Detailed Construction Plans. Go to yahoo search and type Communications Concepts,Inc.,they have several plans for amps from 140 to 1000 pep most are 2 pill amps, they show schematics and x-ray,list all components and prices for them, these amps when finished aren't cheap, but they're rugged when built to their specs and most work 2-30 mhz.Bigbob |

i know i typed some info on this subject, never got a rejection notice from forum master so it either was elsewhere, or i didn't send it... rf parts has plans, circuit board & case. they used to have a parts kit, don't know if it's still available. cb tricks as well as cb tricks book vol II also has plans. fat boy amps sells a kit of all the parts. only thing they don't sell is plans... most but not all of CCI's kits require BIG power supplies, voltage-wise. up to 50 volts DC if i remember.

hey pc, i seem to remember a step by step build of a pride 300 base amp. i 'think' it was in an old secret cb volume, back in the 70's. (they say memory is the 1st thing to go, i can't remember what the 2nd thing is) also u might want to get the black book of cb linears. good book, (but a few of the original schematic errors have not been corrected.) or get a large cabinet, like a collins, and get 3 (or 4) 2n2222s to use as finals and..... |
