I know some folks out there have said that the Blue lights on the New Magnum 257 are kind of bright, yes it can be at times. So my curiosity got the better of me and I got thinking. Some would say "Tom just leave well enough alone, if it ain't broke don't fix it"...
Here is what I decided to try... I thought why not go to the local window tinting shop and pick up a small piece of window tint enough to cover the frequency display. I stopped in and told this guy that worked there what I wanted to do, who by the way was in the middle of tinting a car. He even went as far as looking at the radio and took measurements. He took a piece of tint that he was going to trim from the vehicle he was working on and cut it for my radio. I took the piece home, being careful not to bend it. I got a cup of water mixed a little liquid soap in it, pealed the tint away from the clear side of the material, Dipped it into the cup of water mix and affixed it to the display. **Added note the radio was not attached to any power source**. I used a paper towel to soak up any excess water (which you don't need a lot of water/mix) I also used it to smooth out any bubbles in the tint. I let the radio sit for awhile before applying any power. (just incase..) After turning the radio on the display was a little dimmer and you could still see it in direct sun light too. I used Virginia "legal" tint of, (I hope I get this right) 50% light in. One thing that made this look nice, is that around the display is dark so it doesn't look like there was anything done to it.
Just a thought... In Case the light is a little too bright for you.
