I need to increase the recieve of a General Lee radio , supposedly it's the same as a Connex 3300 HP. I notice once I pass someone going the other way I can't hear them before we are even a mile apart.

could be an antenna placement issue...especially if you HEAR them farther when you're heading TOWARDS each other.(not neccessarily your antenna)

pathfinder, have you checked the obvious things like a poor SWR match? what is the history of that radio?
did you buy it new or from another CB'er?
what kind of antenna and mount are you using?
is your truck fiberglass or metal?
lots of variables here.

Well, it could be that it's the way their antenna is radiating, and nothing to do with your radio. Maybe it's where they have their antenna on their vehicle, mounting it on different corners causes it to direct the waves stronger in different directions.

I have been told by professional techs that it doesn't matter what the SWR is on any given antenna, SWR has NOTHING to do with receive, only transmit. That is why you can take your police scanner and hook it to your cb antenna and hear those 440+ mhz freq's just fine. Of course that same antenna will be useless for transmitting in the 70cm band.

To my knowledge there isn't any pot in a General Lee that increases the receive. There is a transistor you can change to help increase the signal cut some of the chatter out. There is a receive mod you can do that is kinda like a pre-amp. But you need to be able to turn it off, or close stations will overload the front end of your receiver and could cause damage to it.

You might want to check your coax connector and make sure it's tight for starters. Does this problem happen with just certain guys or everyone? I sometimes experience the same problem, and I have a brand new S9.

You might want to look into a complete alignment of your receiver. It's probably close, but close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades...

Unsolder D7 at the banded end and put a 1.5k resistor on the banded end and the other end into the board. Wire it on a switch with both wires from the switch to each side of the resistor so you can turn it on and off.

This will help pull in weak signals but you'll need to turn it off for strong ones or you will ruin your radio's front end...

I done a high power conversion installing three ERF-2030 in my General Lee DX. I don't have a diagram on it. On a Dosy 1000 meter I get 80 watt swing out of it. I would like to know what the drain voltage on TR-43 is supposed to be. That is the collector of the old 2sc2166 where it was 13volts+ now it is 7 volts. If any one has done this conversion and gets more than 80 watts please let me know.
