Hey guys, I have a question regarding my Teaberry stalker IX.......The board is a PCB-385AE.......The limitor (TR 32) is removed on rig, also there's no mic gain control on face....My question is can I wire a variable pot in place of limitor to make it like a mic gain on radio......If possible, what KB pot to I use, I have a couple of pot's laying around for a dial a watt, will these work......Any input would be appreciated.......Thanks |

you will have to replace TR32 first. then remove R104, it's a 10K i think. you have to use a two pronged VR valued at 10K for this to work. i dont think the pots you have will work, but i could be wrong on that. either way, wire it so that you vary from 10K down to dead short. i have not done this, just makes sense that it would work. matt |

Hey Kid vicious, It's been a while....Thanks for info.....I picked this Teaberry up from Ebay and somebody yanked the limiter..Is the stock one a 2sc945??. It came with the stock mic that does have a mic gain on side of mic. I wired up a Turner Super Side kick and run it real low, at about 8 oclock position.......It's loud but from radio reports it's got a real faint gravely sound to it on SSB....I'll go ahead and solder up limiter back in place, but I wish these radio's had a mic gain on face.......Just trying to come up with something that will work in it's place.......Any more info from you guys would be great, and thanks again Kid Vicious. You've came through in the past with some good ideas for me.........73's |

i have heard before that this chassis will have some pops and cracks in the audio if the limiter is removed. in the 148gtl, you can remove C232 and it will clear up. if you have schem. for both radios, then maybe you can find out what part number that corresponds to on the 142gtl/ stalker IX chassis. if it were my radio, i would just use the gain on the mic as the mic gain, and i would do these mods to it. place a 1K resistor in line with (series) the center leg of TR32. put R104 on a SPST switch so its either there or not. remove C81 replace R84 with a 39K resistor. you will be good and loud after that. matt |

Hello Matt. I went ahead and soldered up limiter back to TR-32 (C945) It'still has tons of audio......the mod your describing sounds great....I might give it a whirl...for now I need to get a radio check and see if replacing limiter helped with gravely audio.....I live in a area where there's no sidebanders at all......I have to wait untill conditions come in and get a long distant DX radio check.........Thanks again.......73's |

Hey Matt, No problem, we got her switched over to the right resister.......Big Difference with SPST switch.....Off position it's wide open great for AM but SSB it's a little rough on the peaks (Splatter)....LOL....I like putting the 1k resister inline with the center pin of limiter. With my little 2 pill juicer it sounds like a big Ol' Base.....Thanks bud......Appreciate it.....Untill next time.....73's
