Penrider,

You can do this is a round about way. You first have to set the scan limits. When programmed, the upper and lower scan limits will also act as the upper and lower operating limits of the radio. The radio now cannot be programmed to operate above or below the scan limits. Here's how to do it:

(1) Press the PRG (Program) key.
(2) Press the SCAN key (“PRG SCAN+” should appear in the lower right corner of the display
window).
(3) Using the SHF key and the (s) Up and (t) Down arrows, select the upper scan limit, then press ENT.
(4) Press the SCAN key again (“SCAN-” should appear in the display window).
(5) Using the SHF key and (s) Up and (t) Down arrows, select the lower scan limit, then press ENT.

The upper and lower scan limits have now been programmed. To activate the scan feature, return the radio to manual operation and press the SCAN button. If the display shows “SCAN+”, the radio will scan from the lower limit to the upper limit. If “SCAN-” is displayed, the unit will scan from the upper limit to the lower limit. To change from SCAN+ to SCAN- or vice versa, press SCAN.

So in other words, if you want your radio to operate from, say, 26.735 to 27.555, just follow the above instructions and viola!

I personally use 26.735 to 27.555 most of the time, so this works great for me.

Have fun :-)

If I ordered a 2970 from copper, and I don't want to pay the 30 dollars for the conversion, you are telling me I won't get the E-chip?

I did read it, I was asking again to make sure that that really was your policy. Wow. That's unbelievable.

It is not Copper Electronics policy but Ranger USA's Policy.

As Copper Electronics is a Authorized Ranger Dealer it has to follow the Guidelines / Policy that Ranger USA give's them to follow as a Ranger Authorized Dealer when selling Ranger USA product's to keep your Ranger Factory Warranty intact.

If Copper Electronics does the conversion at the time of purchase your Factory Warranty is Good/100% intact.

If YOU do the conversion and should any problems arise with the radio then Ranger USA can and has in the past VOIDED factory warranties and removed the conversion before returning the radio to the owner.

I know this for a fact myself! I wasn't happy either. So,let Coppers do the conversion for you,
on this one especially!
