if you look in lou franklin's book, "the screwdriver experts guide to CB radio repair"; you will find channel and clarifier mods in the back for the UPD858 SSB chassis. and your TRC449 is one.

If you don't have the book or you can't find anything searching, you can also search for similar radios:

TRC 449
TRC 457
TRC 458
Robyn SB510D
Robyn SB520D
Cobra 138XLR
Cobra 139XLR

...all pretty much the same.

The uPD-858 sideband list is yet longer, Courier Centurion, Pierce Simpson Simba, first model President Grant. Want to think Courier and Pierce Simpson also made some mobile sideband radios with the 858 PLL.
The only difference between the Radio Shack line and the rest is that the Radio Shack models had the microphone gain inside on the PC board.
