Is this the only radio that this will work on? I have a Uniden PC122XL is there something out there like this for that radio?

hi guys, i belong to that group and have since it started.

so far, the mod is only developed to work in the 148/2000 chassis, but it can be made to run in virtually any radio. you would need to reprogram the EPROMS for the different channel codes though.

right now, we are trying to get some PC boards made up, so we can get some kits out there.
the guy who started thegroup is the guy who invented the mod.
i am waiting for my parts to arrive, and i will be building one of my own.
if anyone has any questions i'd be happy to answer them if i can.

I guess my question would be why bother?

It's essentially a 99er kit but installs in a less intrusive manner. I've read through the information and it seems that this mod was created to fit a rather narrow set of parameters that almost noone but the author would care about.

That being said, people really seem to like the display and the fact that the channel knob runs through the channels in order with no skips.

It's interesting and unique, but expensive.

I was really just kind of curious as I have 2 pc122's just sitting and thought that it would be different to try a mod. on a radio. But if it's going to be costly then I would more than likely stay away from it as well...

hollowpoint, all the parts including the eproms have cost me less than $60.00 total.

the difficult part is finding time to do all the wiring!

I think that's awful expensive for just the components. Most of the mod is about the display and I couldn't care less about that part - especially if your target radio is the Cobra 2000 which has a built in frequency counter.

I'd prefer a mod that changes the "N" codes with the flip of an "on-off-on" toggle switch or three position rotary switch. Better yet - change the display to one that has decimal points and then utilitze them in a way that is similar to the Cobra 150 GTL DX does before modification - that I would REALLY LIKE! Maybe I'll suggest that in the group and see what the developer thinks of that idea.

It's cool that someone put thought and effort into this, but it's his idea of how a radio should work and not mine. As it stands I probably won't be building one because I don't care for the results.
